The magistrate adjourned the case until October 13th for a preliminary trial, and the defendant was allowed to continue on bail.
The defendant Chen Jialin (37 years old) was charged with three counts of soliciting benefits from an agent. He alleged that on October 22 last year, as a volunteer of the district councillor Xie Shuzhen, he separately filed a complaint with the business involved in a leasing dispute in an industrial building. The owner, tenant and real estate agent each ask for 800 Hong Kong dollars, a total of 2,400 Hong Kong dollars, as compensation for assisting in the settlement of the three-person rental dispute.
Chen called to save money. He did not hire a lawyer representative today. He stated in court that he suffered from schizophrenia due to family problems when the case happened.
