The arrest of the 88-year-old man from Rehovot who is suspected of murdering his wife was extended this evening (Wednesday) at the request of the police by the court until April 16.
At the request of the suspect's lawyer, the judge imposed a publication ban on his details, name and picture.
The judge said that "there is a suspicion that the suspect committed the crime", but added that additional lines of investigation should be examined.
"The claim that he murdered the deceased sounds like a bit of a strange story and it's hard for us to accept it," said the husband's lawyer, noting his poor health.
According to the lawyer, the suspect is almost blind, he has hearing problems and he is deaf.
He denies that he hurt his wife, to whom he was married for more than 50 years.
The lawyer stated that the suspect was indeed at the scene of the murder, but that in itself raises a "weak and initial" suspicion.
He stated that the suspect needed medication, and hardly left the house.
He asked not to extend the detention, but to release him to "a suitable alternative", to watch over his family members, his home and others, who is willing to supervise him.

The suspect's wife, 76 years old, was found dead last night in her home in Rehovot with signs of violence.
The police arrived at the scene, collected evidence and arrested her husband on suspicion of the act.
The two, parents of two children, lived alone in their apartment, and the police and welfare officials do not know of a history of violence between them.
In the early hours of the morning, the 88-year-old pressed the emergency button at home, claiming that he had a medical problem.
The company that received the call called the MDA team, who reported the incident to the police.
Police officer Ran Batat who arrived at the scene said: "An incident of finding a body was received.
The station officers who arrived at the scene noticed a woman lying lifeless and called the forensics officers and a mobile laboratory who began collecting the findings.
The district commander arrived at the scene with a situation assessment.
At the end of the collection of evidence, the husband was arrested and transferred to the regional unit for further investigation."
