The proposed outline in Lebanon is a game of "I think" | Israel Hayom

Highlights: The United States and France are "stitching" a plan for the north that could be the basis for the next failure and disaster. This is a plan that is far from a victory, or even a picture of victory, and even worse, it will not really allow the safe return of tens of thousands of evacuees to their homes. The problem along the Lebanese border is a security, Zionist and human problem, and we must start talking about it transparently. The essence of the bluff was formulated by a senior Foreign Ministry official.

The "Litani as a buffer" plan is far from perfect, but the negotiations talk about much less, which will not allow the residents of the north who were evacuated to return to their homes

Behind the scenes, under cover of the intensity of the fighting in the south, the United States and France are now "stitching" a plan for the north that could be the basis for the next failure and disaster. This is a plan that is far from a victory, or even a picture of victory, and even worse, it will not really allow the safe return of tens of thousands of evacuees to their homes.

The title of the international contacts currently underway is indeed the implementation of UN Resolution 1701 and the expulsion of Hezbollah north of the Litani – but this is a problematic minimum, since the distance between the "Litani knee" and the Galilee finger is only about 4 km, while other areas of the Litani are farther from the border. Even if we go along with the Litani outline, it turns out that declarations are separate and negotiations are separate.

Despite talk that the Litani will become a buffer between Israel and Hezbollah, the current negotiations are underway to remove Hezbollah only a few kilometers from the border line between Israel and Lebanon, 5-7 kilometers along its entire length. The 85,<> residents of the northern frontier, who became refugees in their country, will be able to return to their homes when they no longer see Hezbollah through their window, but Hezbollah, from only a few kilometers away, will see them well.

Israel, which entered the negotiations under American pressure, is playing "I think." Moreover, according to the "solution," the military element that will be deployed along the border will be the Lebanese army, or "also the Lebanese army," the difference between which and Hezbollah is blurred, and sometimes does not exist at all. The collaborations between the two in the past have often harmed us more than helped, and this is in fact the same lady in a change of heart.

What is even worse is that it is not clear whether the military infrastructure that the Iranian branch on our northern border has accumulated over the years will be dismantled. These are launching pits, firing caves and weapons stockpiles, without even mentioning the 150,<> rockets and the precise and sophisticated weapons of the Shiite terrorist army.

The essence of the bluff was formulated by a senior Foreign Ministry official in a Knesset debate as follows: We are keeping Hezbollah out of sight of residents of the north, who will not see rifle barrels from the window, but not from the firing range (Ze'ev Kam, "at seven"). This approach is reminiscent of another "I think" game currently being played against the Americans, into which Israel is also being sucked. This was reflected in statements made by National Security Council head Tzachi Hanegbi, according to which the PA, after substantive reform, will be able to fulfill the role designated for it by the international community in Gaza.

But Hanegbi is wrong. It is not the PA and its mechanisms that need reform, but the Palestinian public. An old or renewed PA will not be uploaded or lowered. The root of the problem is the Palestinian population, which hates us, glorifies terror, worships "martyrs," is committed to the right of return and the end of the Jewish state, stands up to the massacre and is willing to hand over its rifles to Hamas. That's what they say. All you have to do is listen and act accordingly.

Lebanon's story may be similar, because Israel is once again telling itself stories and is willing to rely on foreigners instead of itself. This is despite the fact that its experience with foreign forces along the northern border is poor. The problem along the Lebanese border is a security, Zionist and human problem, and we must start talking about it transparently. At least according to the content of the negotiations now, the arrangement that is being formulated is far from the contours presented, and does not meet the minimum required.
