Thousands came to the military section of the cemetery in Ra'anana to accompany the city's son, Capt. (res.) Shaul Greenglik (26), an officer in the Nahal Brigade's 931st Battalion, who fell in battle in the northern Gaza Strip on Tuesday.

Three weeks ago, Shaul auditioned on "The Next Star" and passed the audition, but chose to forgo the show in order to fight in Gaza. After the decision, he wrote: "Now I am living an old dream - to fight for the country, another dream will have to wait." In a recent conversation with his mother, he said: "We are fighting for the chief of staff and not for any politician."

Yochai Greenglick, his cousin, wrote earlier: He was not supposed to be in a combat unit. He should have gotten an exemption at all. He had complete night blindness. He sees nothing in the dark. He hid it from the army. In pilot training, he lit a flashlight in navigation. He would constantly fall on journeys. Holding friends in the dark so as not to fall. From pilot training he fell into the Nahal, went out to officers, and completed an infantry officers' course with night blindness.
"On the Next Star" at the beginning of the war he arrived in uniform and sang "I am a blind bat". Words that tell his story in the army. He managed to move on to the next stage and had the option of entering the program and being released from the reserves, but he put his personal dream aside and chose to continue fighting."
