“Retirees are the biggest losers
from the process of
economic deterioration
that we have been experiencing for the last at least six years.
The first thing that corresponds, in the Emergency,
is to grant an emergency increase
over the December salaries to all pensions, not just the minimum ones, and to quickly rebuild – within a period of no more than 6 months – the retirement salaries.
This increase must be financed by the National Treasury
and in a supplementary manner by the FGS (Sustainability Guarantee Fund), which must not be liquidated.
And the thousands of final judgments favorable to retirees must also be paid because the law that requires payment within 120 days is not complied with."
This is the opinion, in conversation with Clarín, of Eugenio Semino, Defender of the Elderly, who maintains that, according to a report published by Guillermo Jáuregui's Study, in the last two years alone,
the loss for retirees in the face of inflation reaches to 60 points
, which is double what the salaries lost.
We must
propose the recomposition of assets and the refoundation of the
pension system on new bases, but this cannot be done if in the middle millions of people are abandoned in a situation of irremediable impoverishment.
Semino added that “in the last two governments there have been
twists and turns regarding the mobility formula
.
At the time, Macrismo had established its own calculation that had later been suspended during the first stage of Alberto Fernández's government.
Later, the current formula was established, which is similar to the one that governed in the period before Macri.
However, "the increase in inflation not only exceeded the increase established by both formulas but to the point that it was necessary to accompany the minimum pensions with a bonus that complements the assets, leaving the medium and high assets without bonuses."
Semino says that
“the practice of the bonus has been widely criticized,
because to the extent that it becomes chronic, it begins to function
as a kind of black payment, since it is not incorporated into the credit
and its amount is completely at the discretion of the Executive. .
The bonuses, which were only for the minimum, contributed to deepening the flattening of the pyramid that has been occurring for years.
Retirements that do not receive bonuses were matched with the minimum ones.
To all this – Semino insists – we
must add the impact of the measures that the current government has been taking
since it took office.
With an immense devaluation and
inflation that closed at 25.5% in December
, retirees, pensioners and people with disabilities earned the same in January as in December.
If we take as a reference the latest Basic Basket of Retirees, calculated by the Ombudsman for the Elderly in October of last year, we see a Basket of basic needs of $313,185 compared to a minimum retirement of $118,450.
The basic basket was 2.6 times higher than the minimum, today it would possibly be more than triple that.
