Near Paris, the busiest highway in Europe is closed to traffic between the municipalities of Chamant and Ressons, but

Among farmers, anger is still brewing this Friday morning.

And the repercussions are becoming more present every day.

The A1 motorway, a major axis linking Paris to northern Europe, is closed to traffic in both directions north of Paris, between the municipalities of Chamant (interchange no. 8) and Ressons (interchange no. 11) , for an indefinite period, indicates Sytadin, who advises “taking the N2 to reach Lille from the Paris region”.

The tractors also moved south of Lille this Friday morning, towards Lesquin, causing significant traffic difficulties.

Without a response from Attal, “we will continue the movement”

On the Seclin interchange, south of Lille, where more than 150 tractors entered the A1 at midday on Thursday, traffic is still blocked in both directions.

“Today we are waiting for answers from the Prime Minister and if we do not have any we will continue the movement”, summarizes Jérémy Allard, 25 years old, president of the Young Farmers (JA) of the canton of Quesnoy-sur-Deûle (North) .

“We want to make a living from our profession and not always suffer from unfair competition from other countries which do not respect the same standards.”

“The government always goes in our direction when we discuss with representatives but it’s always nice words,” according to him.

The blockage disrupted traffic in the North, where significant truck and car traffic found itself on muddy departmental roads.

Farmers also plan to block the A1 motorway near the Chamant toll (Oise) in both directions between Paris and Lille.

The Oise prefecture has authorized the closure of the A1 for around forty km until 11:59 p.m. Friday.

At night on the A16

Jean Lefevre, producer of beets and cereals in Oise, who came to protest against the “distortion of competition” with “imported products which do not respect the same social and environmental standards”, expects the blockage to be lifted at the end of the day.

“But the movement is long-term,” warns Olivier Lelièvre, beet and corn producer, also mobilized.

Farmers also spent the night on the A16 in Amblainville (Oise), 60 km from Paris, ready to move closer to the capital depending on government announcements.

The Île-de-France sections of the FNSEA and Young Farmers called on their members to gather this Friday on the main roads around the capital.
