Discussions around the free trade agreement between the European Union (EU) and Mercosur — initiated since 1999 — continue their obstacle course but are today stumbling over the final hurdle.

The “deal” with this market which brings together Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay and Paraguay was to be announced at the beginning of December on the sidelines of COP 28 but the coming to power of the populist Javier Milei in Argentina delayed the process.

A new deadline was finally set for the end of February… in the middle of the Agricultural Show in France.
