A man from Aurich in East Frisia found 50,000 Deutschmarks in a wall clock from the flea market. A spokesman for the city said the money was hidden in the wooden cladding of an 80 cm watch.
The man found the find only after the purchase, when he took a closer look at the watch at home. He was so honest that he immediately went to the lost property office with the money and left it there.
When, after a legal period of six months, no one reported that the money was missing, the notes went back to the finder. He can now keep the money. He only has to pay a processing fee of 576 euros to the city.
