ROME - The cold is coming and for the central-southern regions it will be the first real wave of the season which will bring about a sharp drop in temperature. But this winter turnaround will not last long and the temperatures will already rise again for New Year.
To bring this polar vortex, explain the experts of 3bmeteo, "it is a vast and robust high pressure field that is extending from south-western Europe towards Scandinavia, triggering a massive descent of cold currents of polar origin that with the north-south-west trajectory have now reached the Balkan Peninsula. The step to cross the Adriatic and pour over Italy is short and this will already happen on Friday evening, and then spread over many of our regions during the last weekend of 2019 ".
Meteorologists from Meteo Expert also maintain the same opinion, according to which "the arrival of cold north-eastern winds at the weekend will lead to a sharp drop in temperatures which in the Center-South will bring to fully winter values and even lower than normal. Between Saturday and Sunday, in fact, the first cold wave of the season is expected in the Center-South with snowfalls up to very low altitudes on the central Adriatic regions and in the South ".
The perturbed and cold weather phase will not last long, explains Meteo Expert, "next week a robust high pressure area will stretch over western Europe and the central Mediterranean, on which a very mild mass of air will drag again. Yes therefore - they conclude - a New Year's Eve and an early 2020 characterized by an overall stable time and by rising temperatures with exceptionally mild values in the North and central Tyrrhenian regions (values even 10-12 degrees above the norm in the Western Alps) ".
