Afghanistan: US kill Taliban chief

A key Taliban commander, Mullah Nangyalai, was killed along with 15 militiamen in a drone attack in Afghanistan, local officials told ANSA.

Eight civilians also died in the attack near Shindand - in the Zirkoh district, about 127 km south of Herat. An American military spokesman said that US forces in the country, "at the request of the Afghan security forces, carried out a coordinated defensive air strike in support of Afghan forces in Shindand, Herat, on January 8, 2020".
