(ANSA) - BARI, JAN 28 - The gup of the Court of Bari Rossanade Cristofaro sentenced 90 defendants to sentences between 12 years and 16 months of imprisonment and acquitted one at the end of the Pandora trial, renamed thus from the name of the Greek amitology vase within which all the evils of the Bari mafia of the last 15 years would be contained. The trial was celebrated with an abbreviated rite.
Prosecutor Giuseppe Volpe and the prosecutors who coordinated the investigations, Lidia Giorgio and Renato Nitti, attended the reading of the device in the Trani bunker room. The defendants, all affiliated to the two Diomede-Mercante and Capriati clans of Bari, responded in various capacities to pluri-aggravated mafia association, attempted murders, weapons, robberies, thefts, personal injuries, kidnapping and violations of special surveillance. Among the highest sentences, those of Aiboss of Bari and Bitonto, Nicola Diomede (11 years and 4 months) and Domenico Conte (10 years and 8 months), and the injured Gioacchino Baldassarre (12 years).
