SAN DANIELE DEL FRIULI (UDINE) - Growing numbers in 2019 for Prosciutto San Daniele which reached a turnover of 310 million euros, recording a + 1.4% increase in sales volume and + 1.6% in value of sales. The total production of San Daniele DOP in the past year, the Protection Consortium announces, was 2,600,000 legs sent for processing, coming from the 54 slaughterhouses that transform the raw material from the 3,851 Italian pig farms. On the export front, the share of sales abroad is 18% with an increase of 1.8% compared to the previous year. The best buyers of the Dop San Daniele are confirmed in the first places in France (with 27% of the market); the United States (19%) where Friulian excellence has not been affected by recent tariffs in the food sector; Germany (13%) and Australia (10%). Exports to non-European countries also recorded a good 45% of product imports in 2019, stable compared to the 2018 growth figure and higher than the percentages of previous years. On the type of product most exported, the Consortium announces, last year the pre-sliced trays underwent a slight decrease compared to previous years, settling on a total of 17% against 83% of product sold worldwide in the form of a thigh whole and consequently sliced at the moment.
In Italy, on the other hand, the consumption of pre-sliced signals a growing curve, with over 21.2 million certified trays, equal to 380,769 hams for a total of over 1,812,000 kg, confirming itself as the most performing sales trend for San Prosciutto Daniele Dop.
