In Bosnia and Herzegovina a few hundred people are reaching the Potocari Memorial Cemetery, at the gates of Srebrenica, to commemorate the over eight thousand victims of the genocide committed 25 years ago by Serbian-Bosnian troops led by General Ratko Mladic.
The commemoration this year takes place in compliance with the restrictive and security measures imposed for the covid-19 pandemic. In addition to the relatives of the nine victims whose remains will be buried today, a limited number of people are allowed to avoid contagion. These are the victims of the massacre whose remains have been identified in the past 12 months.
Some Bosnian authorities and representatives of the diplomatic corps will participate in the ceremonies, while the personalities who were supposed to be in Srebrenica today sent video messages.
At the funeral rite of the nine victims, whose remains were found in one of the 70 mass graves, only family members will attend. The youngest victim to be buried today was Salko Ibisevic, who was 23 years old in 1995, while the oldest is 70-year-old Hasan Pezic.
