Zanardi: new head surgery, stable conditions

Alex Zanardi underwent a "delicate neurosurgical procedure for the treatment of some late complications due to primary head injury". The surgery took place on Saturday, the day after the transfer to the San Raffaele Neurosurgical Intensive Therapy, as the hospital says, communicating that its conditions "appear stable". "Regarding the clinical conditions of Alex Zanardi - reads a note -, the San Raffaele Hospital announces that the day after the transfer to the Neurosurgical Intensive Therapy, directed by Professor Luigi Beretta, the patient underwent a delicate procedure neurosurgery performed by Professor Pietro Mortini, director of the Operative Unit of Neurosurgery, for the treatment of some late complications due to primary head injury ".
    The hospital announces that "at the moment the clinical and radiological tests confirm the success of the aforementioned treatments and the current clinical conditions of the patient, still hospitalized in the Neurosurgical Intensive Care Unit, appear stable".
    Zanardi was transferred to San Raffaele in Milan on Friday from the Lecco clinic Villa Beretta, where he had started a path of neuro-rehabilitation after being hospitalized for over a month and three head surgeries at the Siena hospital, to contain the damage reported in the dramatic handbike accident of 19 June in Tuscany.
