A few days before the start of the school year described as "special" by the Minister of Education Jean-Michel Blanquer on Wednesday, daily Covid-19 contamination is reaching. According to the latest figures communicated by Public Health France, 5,429 new cases of Covid-19 contamination were counted in 24 hours, a level not reached since mid-April.
The test positivity rate was stable at 3.7% between August 17 and 23. At the start of the summer, only 1.4% of tests were positive. 27 new epidemic foci were discovered in the country in 24 hours and 340 “clusters” are under investigation. 48 departments are now in "a situation of moderate or high vulnerability".
A computer failure for other data
Data on hospitalizations and deaths, however, were not updated on Wednesday. "Following a computer failure, mortality data and the number of hospitalized patients are not available on August 26," says SPF. On Tuesday, there were some 4,600 people hospitalized. Of these, 410 are in intensive care.
Since the start of the epidemic, 20,038 people have died in a hospital establishment. The coronavirus has also killed 10,506 people in social and medico-social establishments, such as nursing homes. In total, the epidemic has killed 30,544 people since the start of March.
