The discounter Aldi is not always at the forefront when it comes to sustainability and environmental protection.
An environmentally friendly innovation is now waiting at the bread counter.
In the fight against
plastic waste
,
discounters
don't want to sleep either.
Aldi Süd is now introducing an environmentally friendly
alternative at
the
bread counter
.
The
reusable bags
are offered as an alternative to
paper bags
with a
plastic
window.
Munich - Yes, the
Co2 pollution
dropped during Corona, but the
pandemic
does not have
green consequences
in all areas
: According to the
German Association for Waste Management
DGAW,
2.26 million tons more household waste are
expected
in the course of the corona virus
.
Lots of
plastic and paper packaging
.
In the fight to reduce plastic waste,
discounters
like
Lidl
,
Aldi
and Co are not exactly pioneers.
Quite the opposite: The
price
is often what counts here,
and it can usually be kept lower when packaged in plastic.
Also the
freshness
the food masses should be guaranteed for as long as possible.
Aldi Süd: Change to the bread counter - alternative for customers
Nevertheless, the discounters are trying more and more.
At the
bread counter
,
Aldi Süd
also wants to take
a step in the right direction.
No, the paper and plastic bags won't go away completely here.
When it comes to reaching into the bread displays, at least one alternative is now offered: a
reusable bread bag
.
The narrow
fabric bag
is 20 x 50 centimeters in
size.
For
99 cents it
can be bought once and used again and again.
From November 1st a slightly narrower version (25 x 45 cm) will be available for the same price.

Aldi Süd: The vegetable network is getting a sibling - discounter introduces reusable bags for baked goods
Instead of a
printed paper bag with a window
,
rows of
natural fiber bags
could
now
run over the conveyor belt
at
Aldi Süd
.
According to the company, the sustainable
vegetable network has
already proven itself.
The concept should therefore be introduced more and more: sustainable and reusable.
Aldi
has also
upgraded
for plastic lids and shampoo bottles
.
The
competition
never sleeps either: Lidl, Rewe and Netto are also banning more and more plastic.
However, the decision still rests with the
consumer
.
After all, the
bread bags are
only offered as an alternative.
So the
disposable bags
are not going to say goodbye yet.

There are also innovations at Aldi Süd regarding shopping trolleys * - children and seniors will probably benefit from them.
Those who prefer to
stock up
on
confectionery
from
Eastern Europe
should examine this recall: There is a risk from carcinogenic substances.
