Puma follows traveler (kunkyle)

Going for a walk in the field alone on an autumn day, sounds like the most fun and relaxing thing one can do.

This, of course, as long as you do not encounter a cougar.

American Kyle Burgess, a resident of the city of Provo in the state of Utah, went for a walk on one of the mountain trails in his area.

Suddenly, he discovered a mountain cougar ("cougar") following him.

The stressful surveillance lasted a little over six minutes, and fortunately, in the end he managed to smuggle her out.

After the incident, Burgess posted a video on his Instagram account documenting the entire experience.

It all started when he discovered next to the trail a puppy of a mountain cougar.

Shortly afterwards, the puppy's mother appeared, who as mentioned began to follow the hiker.

All this while trying to keep her away by shouting and scaring her.

It is a predator also known as the "American Lion" or "Mountain Lion", and is considered one of the largest in the feline family.

"Never turn your back on a predator"

The Travel and Leisure website, which reported the incident, noted that in such cases, the best advice is to make yourself look bigger in front of the predator, using hand gestures and shouting, and slowly catch distance from the predator.

And just as important: in no way should you turn your back on a cougar, or any other predator that follows you.

In general, anything that could be interpreted as a reason to attack you - would be highly not recommended.

In the video you can hear Burgess as he tries to apply all these methods, but it seems that on the determined cougar nothing works.

The more stressful parts of the video are the ones where the cougar sounds grumbling and looks like it is about to attack the frightened hiker.

Eventually, Burgess managed to keep the cougar away, after throwing a large rock.

"Then it just happened," he says.

Despite the fact that Burgess looks and sounds absolutely scared, he says he certainly understands the cougar's behavior.

"She's a mother, and as such she just did what she was supposed to do," he says.

"She is protecting her offspring."

He further adds that the incident will not make him stop hiking.

“It’s something I love to do,” he notes.
