Transport: Gibelli (Fnm), mobility must change 'scale'

Changing the level of "scale" by reinterpreting the territory: this is where the new way of experiencing transport passes according to the president of Fnm Andrea Gibelli.

The topic was at the center of the digital meeting "The future of mobility" organized by Corriere della Sera on the themes of urban regeneration, intermodality and digital technologies.

For Gibelli the "old paradigms" of an administrative nature "from the transport point of view no longer have any meaning. The idea of ​​a metropolitan city is no longer the adequate scale, the 'megacity' is the scale of Lombardy".

"Our model - added the manager - is to allow people to live in small and medium-sized centers but, thanks to infrastructures and technology, to be able to move quickly", keeping Milan, Bergamo and Brescia as "large territorial aggregation centers".

2020, remarked Gibelli, "marks the beginning of the deliveries of the new trains to Fnm that will be destined for Trenord. From now to 2025, 176 new latest generation trains will be delivered, plus 14 hydrogen trains. A total investment which is worth more than two billion euros ".

In addition, in the guidelines of the new 2021-2025 strategic plan, approved on 25 November by the group's board of directors, "we have coined the paradigm of the new anthropization".

This concept includes the idea of ​​a new 72-kilometer supercyclable to connect the center of Milan to Malpensa airport, which is ready for the 2026 Winter Olympics. "The will - concluded Gibelli - is to redesign everything the auction that goes from Cadorna to Malpensa Airport, regenerating four railway poles: the Cadorna station, the Bovisa center, the center of Saronno and the Busto Arsizio station ".

The project, shared with the municipalities concerned, is to carry out the work "within the next 6 years", as a "business card" for the territory.
