Because of a wrong-way driver, two cars collided on Autobahn 66 on Christmas Eve and three people were seriously injured.
An 84-year-old had driven in the wrong direction on the highway for an unexplained cause, as the police announced on Thursday evening.
The senior then collided with a car between the Wiesbaden motorway junction and the Diedenbergen exit (Main-Taunus-Kreis).
The 84-year-old and the 70-year-old driver in the other car and his 71-year-old co-driver were taken to nearby hospitals with serious injuries.
The motorway was blocked for around three hours in the direction of Frankfurt.
The damage is around 35,000 euros.
It was unclear in the evening where the wrong-way driver hit the highway and how long he was on the highway, as a police spokeswoman explained.
