The head of the corona, Prof. Nachman Ash, is currently holding a press briefing ahead of the closure.

The closure, which will take effect today at 5 p.m., will include traffic restrictions and commercial, recreational and leisure activities.

It will last two weeks and is expected to be extended by another two weeks, unless there is a decrease in the daily verified number of at least one thousand people and a decrease in the coefficient of infection, which will be less than 1.

"Our original recommendation about two weeks ago was tight restraint," Prof. Ash stressed.

"As time went on and the disease increased, we decided on a more difficult and complex step - a complete closure. I call on the citizens at this point in time to adhere to the closure guidelines. The measures are intended to lower the level of morbidity and deal with the corona in the best possible way. "

The Ministry of Health published this morning the latest corona morbidity data, which show that 63,658 new tests were performed yesterday, 2,636 of which were found to be positive.

The rate of positive results stands at 4.1%.

The Ministry of Health also stated that there are 35,560 active patients in Israel.

604 of them are hospitalized in critical condition, of whom 172 are in critical condition.

In addition, 145 patients were resuscitated and 208 patients were in moderate condition.

To date, 3,222 people have died from the virus in Israel.

The number of staff members in solitary confinement stands at 2,861, of whom 411 are physicians and 768 brothers and sisters.

Since midnight, 17,355 tests have been performed to detect the virus, 872 of which have turned out to be positive - so the rate of positive tests as of 09:04 stands at 5%.
