(ANSA) - ROME, 11 JAN - To combat climate change, Italians would be more willing to give up air travel rather than stop eating meat, buy new clothing, use video streaming services or their own car.

This is what emerges from the second publication dedicated to citizens' behavior in relation to climate change, concerning 2020-2021, released by the European Investment Bank (EIB) - the financial arm of the European Union and the largest multilateral financier of projects in the climate field at world level - in collaboration with the French market research company Bva.

For 66% of Italians, however, the risk of contracting Covid-19 is more concerned than the long-term impacts of climate change.

77% say they would avoid using public transport at the moment for fear of consequences for their health.

Overall, 34% of Italians - compared to 19% of the European average - say they implement "radical corrective measures to their lifestyle to combat climate change".

According to the survey, travel will be affected by both pandemic trends and climate-related concerns.

33% of Italian respondents say that, once the restrictions due to the pandemic have been overcome, they will not fly for climate change considerations, and 43% intend to spend their holidays in Italy or in a neighboring country to minimize carbon emissions.

For only 12% of Italians, air travel habits will remain unchanged compared to pre-Covid ones.
