According to the latest figures from Public Health France, 22,086 new contaminations have been recorded in the last 24 hours, against 4,240 on Monday (the figures are still lower on Monday due to the closure of laboratories on weekends) and 23 608 just seven days ago.
The test positivity rate stands at 6.8%, compared to 6.4% on Monday.
3071 patients in intensive care
Over the same period, health authorities have also identified some 352 hospital deaths linked to the new coronavirus.

This brings the toll of the epidemic in France to 74,106 victims.
Of this total, 51,868 people died in hospital and 22,238 died in nursing homes.
At the hospital, Public Health France also announced on Tuesday that more than 27,000 patients are now treated in the country.
With 2006 new admissions on Tuesday, the number of people hospitalized now stands at 27,005 patients.
Among them, 3,071 suffer from a serious form of the disease requiring treatment within the intensive care unit.
They were 3,031 on Monday.
In the past 24 hours, 343 new patients have been admitted to these specialized services.
