(ANSA) - MANILA, MARCH 27 - From Monday in the Philippine capital, Manila, a new lockdown will come into effect in an attempt to ease the pressure on hospitals that are fighting with a surge in coronavirus cases.

The measure will involve 24 million people, between cities and suburbs.

"The virus is the enemy, not the government," presidential spokesman Harry Roque said, adding that the lockdown is scheduled for a week.
