Slovakian Peter Sagan (Bora-Hansgrohe) sprinted the first stage of the Giro di Romandie, the 168km Aigle-Martigny, beating the Italian Sonny Colbrelli in a sprint.
The leader of the standings is still the Australian Rohan Dennis (Ineos-Grenadiers), who yesterday dominated the chronoprologist.
Colbrelli had launched early for the sprint on the group despite the headwind, but the three-time world champion reassembled him to take his 116th career victory, the second of the year after a stage in the Tour of Catalonia.
Tomorrow the second stage will take the riders from La Neuveville to Saint-Imier on a hilly course of 165 kilometers.
