(ANSA) - ROME, APRIL 28 - The street vendors blocked the Great Ring Road of Rome this morning to protest against the stop to the extension of the licenses.

The blockade occurred at the height of Ciampino, with the patrols of the traffic police who are trying to facilitate mobility in the neighboring streets.

"Let's protest against the calls that the mayor of Rome wants to carry out in Rome - says one of the demonstrators - 18 thousand concessions are at risk and 12 thousand are demonstrating today with vans".

A garrison of protesters is also present in Piazza della Repubblica, in the center of the city.

"What is happening in Rome today is unacceptable. A minority of street vendors are holding the citizens hostage by blocking traffic. I want to be clear: we do not accept recriminations from anyone. We will carry out the plan to reorganize the booths in the streets of Rome", said the mayor Virginia Ray in a post on Facebook replying to the street vendors' protests.

"We met the prefect and during the meeting he called Minister Giorgetti to confirm that there will be an extension linked to the pandemic in order to make everyone work calmly. We would have preferred the law to be applied, but already if there is an extension we will be happy". Angelo Pavoncello national vice president Ana Ugl has it. "I tell the Rays mayor that we are not a minority, the category is compact - he continued -. If she had gone around Rome this morning she would have seen all the local markets closed". (HANDLE).
