He was one of the true voices of the pop duo Milli Vanilli: John Davis died at the age of 66.
His daughter wrote on his Facebook page that the singer died on Monday evening as a result of a corona infection.
Davis last lived in the Fürth district.
On Wednesday, his daughter confirmed the death of her father when asked by the dpa news agency.
It has long been a secret that Davis sang world hits for Milli Vanilli. Fab Morvan and Rob Pilatus, the two front men of the band founded in the late 1980s, were dancers and could hardly sing. The three number one hits "Girl You Know It's True", "Baby Don't Forget My Number" and "Girl I'm Gonna Miss You" produced by Frank Fahrian only moved their lips. Davis lent them one of the voices. This became public in 1990 during a US tour through a playback glitch.
Davis first worked as a bass player, then as a singer.
His debut, the funk album »Joker«, was named after his soul band.
Davis continued to make music after the "Milli Vanilli" scandal, singing with the Nuremberg Symphony Orchestra, Eric Burdon, Robin Beck, Uwe Ochsenknecht, Marianne Rosenberg and Sasha.
He also produced a solo album, "Runnin 'Back To You".
With former companions he appeared under the band name "The Real Milli Vanilli".
