(ANSA) - VENICE, 03 JUL - Welcomed by a roar and a long applause, a moved Krysztof Warlikowski today received the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement from the Venice Biennale - Theater. The Polish director explained that the award "is not a crowning achievement", but "an obligation to continue my journey".

The president Roberto Cicutto reiterated that it is the reason that led the Foundation to reward the artist :. "This is precisely the reason why he continues to give us his research - he said - his thought and his talent". There was no lack, on the part of Cicutto, the desire to further raise the bar of the Biennale: "we are again in attendance, this is the first jewel we want to present. We are happy, but we know we want to do even better than we have done so far. "

At the time of the award, a funny curtain took place between Cicutto and Warlikowski: "because of the Covid - said the president of the Biennale - he has to take it on his own", followed by a roar from the audience and a few tears from the director, who it is made available to photographers posing with the Golden Lion.

After the usual thanks, in Italian, the artist remembered a member of his team, in English: "this honor came at a special moment for the theater, an unprecedented moment, in which a member, Sigmund Milanovich, died of Covid before the before my Odyssey, this award is also for you ". Then a reflection on the concept of memory: "with Covid, we asked how much we have lost, we live in a present where the younger we are the more immersed we are in a virtual dimension of the present. We seem to care less about the past. If we cut ourselves off from our memory - he concluded - we will no longer be able to understand the world we live in. " (HANDLE).
