Comfort and sustainability are the two guidelines of the men's collections for spring-summer 2022 on display at Pitti Uomo 100, which closes its doors today in Florence.
Two cornerstones that mark a path towards the rebirth of the taste for elegant dressing, which focuses on garments with relaxed and comfortable silhouettes combined with the sensations of well-being ensured by eco-sustainable garments.
Formal clothing, which has always been the protagonist at the fair, is rediscovered in the name of comfort, for a relaxed contemporary style: the volumes of suits and separates become soft, the trousers have a comfortable fit, the shirts - especially the button-down ones - become oversize, inspired by the American models of the 70s / 80s. For those who want to add a touch of color, Hawaiian shirts, oversized and with floral prints will be very trendy. They are worn combined with cargo pants or bermuda shorts, in full beach style.
Lightweight materials, primarily cotton and linen, but also silk.
Organic, above all. Because in fact the path of renewal of this style passes through sustainability.
There is great attention to 100% green materials, to prints (also made with water-based ink), traceability, ethical values, new organic fibers and colors. The most innovative are based on fruit (with natural extracts of strawberry, orange, kiwi, pear, ace, lime and berries), but also squid ink. Even some garments are made with a technique based on the natural polymer chitosan, extracted from the food residues of the shrimp exoskeleton. Technological innovation plays a fundamental role, because all roads are possible to ensure a more sustainable path for fashion. New materials are created, but not only: cotton is recovered and regenerated in new garments, or we think of materials made by recycling plastic bottles.
Innovation in materials is the future, even for casual, technical and sportswear. The one from every day. The new fabrics must be performing: waterproof, windproof, anti-bacterial, highly breathable and able to maintain thermal insulation. The idea is to create garments for all weather conditions, convertible and equipped with pockets for electronic objects (such as laptops). They are not just leaders, but traveling companions.
