Covid-19 in France: 100 new deaths and nearly 11,000 people still hospitalized

2021-09-08T16:36:27.116Z

After dropping below 11,000 hospital patients last week, the number of patients treated has fallen again.

"The epidemic is not yet behind us," Jean Castex insisted on Wednesday in his intervention, despite the progress of vaccination during the summer.

The head of government again pleaded to "continue to convince those who still doubt" about the vaccine "and to reach out to those, often elderly, precarious, isolated, who feel excluded from the health care system".

In the meantime, the fourth wave of Covid-19 seems to continue its slow decline, according to indicators observed in hospitals.

Thus, after falling below the bar of 11,000 patients in hospital for a Covid infection last week, the number of patients treated fell slightly with 10,438 hospitalizations on Wednesday, against

10,646 Tuesday and 11,119 a week ago.

As for the most serious cases, the authorities have identified 2,224 patients admitted to critical care, or 35 less than the day before.

Proof that hospital pressure is decreasing: there were 2,294 patients in intensive care a week ago.

At the same time, 100 people died in the last 24 hours, against 120 the day before.

The authorities already recorded 85 deaths a week ago.

More than 49 million people vaccinated

Finally, the vaccination campaign is maintaining its pace, admittedly less sustained in recent weeks. In all, more than 90 million injections have been performed in France. As of September 7 and since the start of the vaccination campaign, more than 49 million people have received at least one injection, or 73% of the total population. Likewise, 45.8 million people now have a complete vaccination schedule, or 68% of the total population.
