Many people are debating whether to pay for "insurance" tickets, in case God forbid they start in Corona • What does the law say about this, and where is cancellation allowed and under what conditions?

Many consumers are confused about their rights regarding cancellation of tickets to shows during the Corona period, when the cancellation occurs due to infection with the virus or due to being in isolation.

It was during this period that the phenomenon of "insurance" of cards was born, which is required to be paid by the consumer who fears that he will be forced to cancel his card.

In light of inquiries from readers, we decided to make an order to understand when it can be canceled and what the conditions are for it.

• Entertainment and attractions up to NIS 100

Eventim and Zappa offer a "peace of mind" service, which allows the customer to retroactively cancel a ticket purchase transaction and receive a full refund, even when he has no right to cancel under the Consumer Protection Law, and the payment for the service is worth 6% of the order, including handling and shipping.

The refund is made after notification of the cancellation of the transaction using a suitable form, up to 48 hours before the start of the show.

By law, the right to cancel a transaction after purchasing tickets is in accordance with the manner in which the transaction was made: if it was made online / over the phone, it can be canceled within 14 days of being executed or receiving a proper disclosure form.

The dealer may charge a cancellation fee of 5% of the amount paid, or NIS 100 - whichever is lower.

A frontal transaction (at the business) can be canceled by notifying the office from which the tickets were purchased, within 14 days from the date of the transaction, and provided that it is canceled up to 14 days before the date of the event.

However, due to the situation, some businesses also consider customers who have not purchased insurance and want to cancel the card.

Should the requirement for insurance be imposed on the consumer, or on the sellers of the show?

"A dealer can not collect additional money from consumers as a kind of insurance to settle his debts in the law," explains Ofer Feinstein, CEO of the Consumer Council.

The Consumer Council vehemently opposes the collection of additional funds, ostensibly intended to ensure the basic right of the consumer.

"However, the Consumer Council strongly encourages practitioners, especially during this period, to insure their activities, so that they can return to consumers the full amount collected, at the time of cancellation of the events. "To ensure payment."

From

the Cameri Theater

we were told that "we are very flexible during this period, and allow for the postponement of ticket sales. Even if it is the same day, a refund can be obtained."

Habima

stated: "For any cancellation of

a ticket following the corona, within 48 hours, the consumer may order and redeem a ticket for a show up to six months from the date of cancellation based on availability. Beyond that, as any consumer may cancel 48 hours before the event, Full money for the canceled ticket. "

Beit Lessin

stated: "Buyers of

tickets and subscriptions who purchased through the theater box office or the theater's website, and announced cancellation due to the corona by the day of the show - have been placed on a different date or have been credited."

The

Gesher Theater

responded: "We have chosen to adopt a flexible policy regarding requests for postponements and cancellations against the background of the Corona period. "Can cancel them up to 48 hours before the show without paying. If the ticket purchaser decides not to come for one reason or another, and notifies in accordance with theater procedures, we will offer alternative dates or a refund accordingly."

Eventim response:

Eventim

operates in accordance with the law. The Consumer Protection Law does not allow cancellation of tickets for performances except two weeks after purchase, and up to seven days from the date of the show, means a ticket can not be canceled due to Corona disease or isolation - except in accordance with the law. The show confirms that Eventim allows its customers to cancel a ticket only due to Corona disease, up to 48 hours before the show. Eventim also has a service (no insurance) that allows you to cancel tickets up to 48 hours before the show, which the customer must purchase separately .
