(ANSA) - ROME, FEB 25 - "The legislation on the presumption of innocence is not an idea of the Minister or the Government, but it is the necessary implementation of a European directive, which dates back to 2016. It is a necessary legislation to balance two essential principles of the Italian Constitution and European law: on the one hand, the right of the media to inform and citizens to be informed and, on the other hand, the right of the persons under investigation and accused not to be represented as guilty. The presumption of innocence has been a cornerstone of our democracies for centuries, as well as the right to information is ". This is what the Minister of Justice, MartaCartabia said, remotely speaking at a conference organized by the Alma Mater Studiorum University of Bologna.
Words pronounced in the indoman of the
bitter criticism of the provision on the presumption of innocence of the acting chief prosecutor of Milan, Riccardo Targetti, who yesterday said he believed that "the law introduces the concept of the regime tissue".
