During the tenth annual call for social projects of the
Mutua Madrileña foundation,
which was held on Thursday March 3 in Madrid, the wife of King Felipe VI wore a white linen blouse, decorated with embroidery and pompoms.
It was a “vyshyvanka” shirt, designed in the purest Ukrainian tradition, a strong clothing choice by which Queen Letizia of Spain showed her support for Ukraine.
If this political and stylistic gesture has not gone unnoticed, it is not the first of its kind since Ukraine was invaded by Russia.

The vyshyvanka, a patriotic symbol
The “vyshyvanka” has always been political.
This linen dress dates back to the Middle Ages and, according to folklore, has protective properties.
Traditionally, it varies according to the regions and thus bears the local colors.
Erected as a patriotic symbol, the clothing emblem experienced a resurgence of interest after the Ukrainian revolution of 2014 when it multiplied in the streets of the country.
So much so that in 2016, it is part of the fashion trends of the major capitals.
On March 3, it is through her that Queen Letizia of Spain shows her support for Ukraine in the Russian conflict.
Proof that the embroidered blouse has not finished playing a key role.
