(ANSA) - GENEVA, MARCH 27 - The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has denied having facilitated the forced evacuation of Ukrainian civilians to Russia.
"The ICRC never helps organize or carry out forced evacuations. This is true wherever we operate. We would never support an operation that goes against the will of the people or against our principles," the ICRC said in a statement issued last night.
Yesterday, Ukrainian political analyst Roman Rukomeda had announced "the strange behavior of the Committee of the Red Cross and its president, who announced the decision to open an office in Rostov-on-Don to help Russian terrorists illegally deport Ukrainian citizens".
A decision that also surprised the Ukrainian minister for the reintegration of the occupied territories, Iryna Vereshchuk.
The ICRC stressed that this false information "could have a strong impact on those affected by the conflict in Ukraine. This false information also endangers Red Cross teams and volunteers on the ground and could threaten our access to people in need of urgent help."
