France, tens of thousands in the streets against the far right

"Better a vote that stinks than a vote that kills": with this slogan tens of thousands of protesters, many not open supporters of Emmanuel Macron, took to the streets today in Paris and the rest of France to say "no to the far right ", eight days before the second round of the presidential elections, which sees the outgoing president in the ballot against Marine Le Pen.

According to the interior ministry, 13,600 people mobilized in more than 50 demonstrations in the various regions of France and 9,200 in Paris, while the organizers claim nearly 40,000 participants in Paris and 150,000 people across France.

Among the most popular parades was that of Marseille, where Macron spoke today.

In Rennes there were incidents between far-left protesters and the police during a prohibited demonstration.

An authorized demonstration against racism and fascism instead took place without incident in another part of the city.

Scuffles also broke out in Paris at the end of the demonstration between the police and a hundred people.

With the launch of bullets, a bicycle and the burning of bins on one side, launch of tear gas on the other.
