Falcon Lake, his first film selected for the Directors' Fortnight, captures the weaknesses and discoveries of adolescence. She showed us behind the scenes of her creation.

Embarking on a first film is a challenge for those who direct it.

Charlotte Le Bon knows it, even if it is not the first time that she has been present on the Croisette as a director.

Already present at the Cannes Film Festival in 2018 for her short film,

Judith Hôtel,

she returns with

Falcon Lake

, selected for the Directors' Fortnight: a feature film freely inspired by the comic strip

A sister

by Bastien Vivès.

We follow two teenagers on vacation with their respective families in a house on the edge of a lake, in the heart of the lush nature of Quebec where Charlotte Le Bon grew up.

“It was important for me to be able to shoot in places I know,” explains the director.

“I think that reassured me, and I knew that I was going to be able to film them well”.

First emotions

Under his camera, the two young people tame each other and get closer, despite a legend of ghosts and the torments of adolescence.

A period that Charlotte Le Bon does not consider innocent because according to her, “we are confronted with many things.

The first emotions, the arrival of love in our lives, is something that shakes us up completely.

For this "story of love and ghosts", the filmmaker therefore chose to film an intimate and universal experience, explaining that "making a film means confronting oneself, confronting all the fears, all the possible fears , on oneself, on one's abilities.

It is not easy".

And yet, Charlotte Le Bon carried out this project brilliantly, taking it to Cannes cinemas.

The actress and director does not intend to stop at this first feature film since she is already at work on her next film: a story once again imbued with a fantastic dimension, since it is inspired by the story of a friend of his who lived in a haunted apartment.

We are already shivering.
