After two Oscars, twelve nominations and a Golden Lion for best film in Venice, the sequel to »The Joker« from 2019 was probably only a matter of time.

Now there is a sequel.

US director Todd Phillips confirmed this with an Instagram post.

Pictured is the first page of a screenplay being written by Phillips and Scott Silver.

The title is also recognizable: »Joker: Folie à Deux«, in German »madness for two«.

Another picture shows Joaquin Phoenix reading the script.

Phoenix won an Oscar for best actor for his role as the mentally ill Batman nemesis.

In it he played the clown comedian Arthur Fleck, who becomes a violent criminal in run-down Gotham City.

The title »Folie à Deux« invites speculation about the plot.

It is a psychological term for a psychotic disorder in which two closely related people, such as a child and a parent, develop the same delusion.

Those who know the comic templates might think of researcher Harleen Quinzel, who treats the Joker, falls in love and becomes the murderous Harley Quinn.

In the first part, »The Joker« tells the so-called origin story of the notorious adversary of super detective Batman, a mad, white-painted horror clown who giggles and causes anarchy wherever he appears.

The blockbuster set records at the box office in 2019.

The dark character study had grossed more than a billion dollars.

The comic adaptation was the first R-rated feature film to overcome this hurdle.

According to the strict R rating in the USA, young people under the age of 17 can only see the film when accompanied by an adult.
