(ANSA) - ROME, JUN 08 - The export of Italian plants and flowers is worth 1 billion euros, while the national production constitutes 15% of the entire Community production.

Even in the period from March to April, due to the energy costs resulting from the international situation, it is also causing repercussions for the sector with a decline of up to 4% in turnover and up to 5% on exports in the second two years of 2022.

In perspective, a unique opportunity for the development of the sector comes from the European funds for urban forestry that the NRP has quantified at 330 million euros, a possibility activated with a call published in March and with applications that must be submitted by June.

This is what emerged during the meeting 'The contribution of Italian floriculture to the objectives of the New European Green', organized today in Rome by Flormart, the international trade fair of the sector whose 71st edition will be held in Padua from 21 to 23 September next, and which from this year is set up by the Parma Fairs Group.

By joining the European Agenda 2030 for the Green Deal, "florovivaism - underlined the experts - will be able to make a significant contribution to urban forestry with the aim of combating climate change, increasing the storage of Co2, absorbing fine dust and improving the aesthetics of the city" .

From an economic point of view, it was recalled that Italian flower nurseryism accounts for 6% of the entire national agricultural production, for a value of 2.5 billion euros and with 21,500 operating companies: 14,000 produce overgrown flowers and plants and 7,500 plants for nurseries.

Analysts present that in the first two months of 2022 turnover was positive, in line with the first two months of 2021, while in the period March-April there was a decline of 3-4 percent.

In the second two months of 2022, exports too recorded a decline of 5% - experts say - with demand coming mainly from the Netherlands, Germany, France and Austria.

Finally, there was a decline in exports to southern Europe and to Russia and Eastern Europe.
