A postal employee is said to have looted hundreds of packages in Birkenwerder, Brandenburg, over several months.
According to the police, the damage was around 20,000 euros.
The alleged theft was revealed by a security officer on Friday, according to a spokeswoman for the Oberhavel Police Inspectorate on Sunday.
The 35-year-old suspect is said to have committed the crimes in a postal distribution center in Birkenwerder.
According to the police, the accused hoarded some of the opened packages in an empty post office storage room.
The other shipments were stored in a boarding house where the man also lived.
Forensic technicians secured evidence, the packages were secured.
The police could not say whether the suspect, who was already being questioned, was after certain contents of the packages.
