According to media reports, US actress Amber Heard has appealed against her conviction in the defamation trial against her ex-husband Johnny Depp.
This is reported, among other things, by the celebrity portal »TMZ« and the »New York Post«.
The relevant documents were filed Thursday in Fairfax County, Virginia.
“We believe the court made errors that prevented a just and fair trial in accordance with the First Amendment.
We are therefore appealing the verdict,” quoted “TMZ” as saying a spokesman for Heard.
According to the portal and the British Daily Mail, a representative of Hollywood star Depp said unimpressed: "The jury listened to the extensive evidence presented during the six-week trial and came to a clear and unanimous verdict that the accused himself has slandered Mr. Depp on several occasions.
We remain convinced of our cause and that this judgment will stand.«
Heard has to pay more than ten million dollars
As a result of a six-week defamation trial in which the ex-husbands had accused themselves of domestic violence, the jury had largely sided with Depp in early June – but also agreed with Heard on some points.
According to the verdict, Heard Depp has to pay more than ten million dollars in damages for defamation.
Depp owes her $2 million for statements by his ex-lawyer that allegedly damaged Heard's reputation, according to the jury's decision.
A few days ago, Heard failed with an application to have the verdict overturned.
Judge Penney Azcarate declined to overturn the verdict and related claims for damages.
Heard's lawyers had requested this in view of possible procedural errors.
