The public prosecutor's office in Hamm is investigating a man who is said to have killed his wife after 62 years of marriage.
According to the senior public prosecutor Carsten Dombert, the act happened on Tuesday night.
The suspect killed his wife and then surrendered.
"It's a particularly tragic case," Dombert said.
According to the children and grandchildren, the couple had an “excellent and happy marriage”.
Unreasonable fear of the police
However, the witnesses reported that the man had changed in the past few weeks.
He was afraid of being followed and arrested by the police for no reason.
Therefore, according to Dombert, a psychiatric expert will be called in to assess whether the 84-year-old may be less criminally responsible.
Only then will it be decided whether he will be held in custody or in a forensic clinic.
