Hotel in Pakistan destroyed by floods (twitter.com/Headlineznow)

The newly renovated New Honeymoon Hotel was one of the largest and most expensive resorts in Kalam, Pakistan, and featured 150 designer rooms.

In a video shared last weekend on Twitter, the luxury hotel is seen collapsing entirely to the ground in light of the devastating floods in the area that managed to sweep away the foundations of the building.

Ashok Swain, a professor of peace and conflict studies at Uppsala University, said that Pakistan is suffering from massive economic and political crises, so the heavy floods are only worsening the country to a new low.

He wrote next to the video he shared online: "The unprecedented flood has made the state of the country much worse."

According to the reports in the local networks, there were no casualties in the disaster, as tourists and hotel staff left the place on Wednesday, August 24, in accordance with the government's instructions.

However, the floods - which are the result of a particularly heavy monsoon season - have destroyed lives elsewhere in the country.

Rains this year broke new records and led to intense floods in valleys and urban flooding.

The latest figures from the National Disaster Management Authority state that 982 people have been killed in floods since mid-June, while 1,456 have been injured.

Pakistan's High Commission in London said about 33 million people have been affected so far, particularly in Sindh and Balochistan provinces.

After the government declared a state of emergency, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shahbaz Sharif, is now appealing for international assistance in dealing with the crisis.

Sharif wrote on Twitter: "The continuous rain has caused destruction across the country. The losses, although not yet recorded, are similar to the flash floods of 2010. We are grateful to the international community for their sympathy, condolences and promises of support. Together we will build back better."

He later added: "Visit flood-affected areas and meet with people. The magnitude of the disaster is greater than we estimate. The times demand that we unite as one nation to support our people who are facing this disaster. Let us rise above our differences and stand by our people who need us today."
