Rice waffle snack recall: warning of mold toxin

Rice cakes are a popular snack between meals - but one product is now under recall.
The reason is a mold toxin.
Kassel - They are considered a healthier alternative to sugary or fatty snacks: rice cakes.
They are now available in many different variations to suit every taste - whether sweet, salty or extra thin.
But if you are currently in the mood for rice cakes, you should be careful.
A manufacturer is currently recalling its product.
The reason for this is mold toxin with which the product is contaminated.

Rice cakes in recall - That's what the manufacturer says about the discovery of mold toxin
The manufacturer informs its customers in a press release that the product is being recalled and has been withdrawn from sale.
The rice cakes are considered suspicious due to the high aflatoxin content (mould toxin) in the raw material rice.
Furthermore, all customers can return the product to their point of sale and receive a refund of the purchase price.

Alexandra Borchard-Becker from Verbraucher Initiative eV explains what can happen if moldy food is consumed.
“This can cause acute symptoms of poisoning, such as vomiting and diarrhea.
Mold can also damage the liver and kidneys and affect the immune system.
Eating products that have become moldy over a long period of time can also be carcinogenic and mutagenic.”
The mold toxin found in rice cakes (aflatoxin) most commonly affects the liver and is even suspected of causing hepatitis B.
The BfR
writes that the maximum quantity of the substance is specified by the Contaminants Maximum Quantity Ordinance (KmHmVO)

Do not consume, better throw away recalled rice cakes with mold toxin
Products infested with mold should never be eaten.
It's usually best to throw away the entire product.

Even if the mold is only visible in a small area, it usually goes much deeper than the visible area.
There are always food recalls, only recently two products from Kaufland were recalled.
