It wasn't easy, but the “Biodiversity Loto” is well enshrined in law.
This amendment announced by Le Parisien-Aujourd'hui en France has been retained in the first part of the 2023 budget, adopted without a vote this Wednesday, October 19 through article 49.3.
It will have been necessary to fight so that the proposal remains well in the texts.
The French administration is not favorable to the games.
What is about ?
“From a popular awareness operation.
The idea is to promote biodiversity close to home,” replies Pierre Dubreuil, director general of the National Office for Biodiversity (OFB).
Concretely, it will be a scratch game, on the model of the Loto du patrimoine carried by the animator Stéphane Bern.
You can buy tickets duly stamped Française des jeux from your tobacconist.
They should cost less than 10 euros each.
“Above all, we want to put the spotlight on biodiversity”
“The idea is for it to be affordable.
This first edition of the Biodiversity Loto will perhaps raise 15 million euros, or even 50 million euros for the benefit of the OFB, ”wants to believe Jean-Marc Zulesi, Renaissance deputy for Bouches-du-Rhône.
A sum which will be added to the budget of the agency, ensure its promoters, it is not a question of replacing its financing.
Even 50 million euros, for an agency responsible, among other missions, for combating water pollution, dealing with the management of hunting or drought, the preservation of leatherback turtles in Guyana or the fight against feline trafficking… it's a straw.
“With this initiative, we especially want to put the spotlight on biodiversity,” insists Pierre Dubreuil.
At each Biodiversity Loto operation, the amount collected will finance pre-selected nature missions (cleaning a polluted pond, planting a hedge, restoring butterfly populations).
The players will choose local biodiversity projects by marking their donations when taking their games from the tobacconist... "The idea is to rely on existing platforms to be able to organize the first draw as quickly as possible", specifies Jean-Marc Zulesi.
