The two eleven and twelve-year-old boys stayed on Sunday in a playground in Ebrach, which borders on a schoolyard.
There they noticed a hole in the wall of a shed and pulled out a box, police said in a statement.
The boys showed what was found by one of their mothers, who apparently had a hunch as to what the contents were.
Police later said the box contained double-digit grams of amphetamine and marijuana.
The police also seized some jewelry.
The Bamberg criminal police took over the investigation.
