The Lottery announced the 12 candidates for the "long list" of the Sapir Prize for Literature for 2022. The candidates were chosen by the prize's jury, led by the chairman of the committee and head of the judging team, Oren Nahari.
The candidates selected for the "long list" for 2022 are: "Sister to the Pleiades" by Orit Ilan (Yediot Books);
"All five of us" by Sami Bardugo (The New Library);
"Mother-in-law of Tammuz" by Ilana Bernstein (Zamora Beitan);
"The Volunteer" by Netali Gvirtz (Ketar).
Other candidates on the list: "The Wrong Book" by Naa Yadlin (Kinneret Zamora);
"Hashtkan" by Ari Lieberman (Havast Beit);
"Works and Days" by Lilach Nathaniel (Afik);
"It didn't happen" by Merav Nekar Sadi (Babylon), "The Red Book" by Assaf Inbari (Yodiot Books);
"The Greedy" by Yermi Pincus (Ketar), "Evils" by Tzachi Farber (Kinneret Zamora);
"Professor Schiff's fault" by Egor Schiff (Haozat Beit).
In the debut book category, three candidates will be chosen, each of whom will be awarded NIS 30,000.
Each of the 12 writers selected as part of the "long list" will receive a grant of NIS 30,000.
Out of the 12 candidates, five final books will be chosen, with each of the authors receiving a grant of NIS 60,000.
The prize-winning book will be announced at a ceremony to be held on January 22.
The winner will receive NIS 180,000 and his book will be translated into Arabic as well as another foreign language of his choice.
In addition to this, the Lottery will purchase an edition of 500 books from the books of the five writers selected as part of the "short list", and will give them as a gift to public libraries throughout the country.
Last year, Hila Bloom's book, "How to Love Your Daughter" (Kinneret Zamora Dvir) won the prize.
