A herd of elephants from India pounces on a freshly brewed supply of Muhua schnapps - the consequences are not long in coming.

In India, a herd of 24 elephants, including nine calves, have collectively edged out.

After enjoying muhua, a traditional Indian liquor, they simply passed out and had to sleep off their intoxication.

The binge took place in the eastern state of Odisha.

There, the elephants roamed through the jungle and discovered the large clay pots containing Muhua (made from the flower of the Madhuca longifolia tree).

The villagers had left the brew there to ferment.

After some time, when they wanted to check the process, they were shocked to find that all the clay pots were broken.

The culprits slept off their intoxication next to the shards.

The herd had devoured the entire supply and the residents were unable to wake the animals.

The villagers have no choice but to inform the local wildlife protection authority "Wildlife SOS".

With big drums in their luggage, their employees move out to wake up the pachyderms.

The herd, who probably had a nasty headache from the combination of alcohol and loud drumming, finally managed to get up and slowly disappear into the depths of the jungle.

Forest officials and wildlife authorities have long warned people against brewing the strong liquor.

Because some elephants feel attracted to it and consciously search for it.

"They love it.

It's pure, it's tasty and it's powerful," Kartick Satyanarayan, executive director of Wildlife SOS, told the

"Once they smell it, they can also use their proboscis to enter kitchens or tear down walls to get it.

When they're drunk, they'll even knock down a tree or two or demolish a house."

However, in April of this year, alcohol consumption was wreaking havoc.

A herd of elephants killed five people while intoxicated.

But fortunately everything turned out well for this herd.
