67 people disappeared per day in 2022, up 26%

Government commissioner Bella: on average 47 of them are minors, the vast majority are voluntary removals (ANSA)


In 2022, there were 24,369 missing person reports in Italy, an average of 67 per day, 26.4% more than the 19,269 of the previous year.

In 82% of cases, these were voluntary removals, reports of possible victims of crime represent 0.22%.

These are the data reported in the annual report of the government commissioner for


missing persons, Antonino Bella. 

"Minors, adults and the elderly - he underlined when presenting the report to the Viminale - who make them lose track, placing their families in a situation of great anguish, between hopes and pain". On average, there are 41 reports per day relating to foreigners, 47 of minors (36 foreigners and 11 Italians): mostly males aged between 15 and 17 years.

The increase in reports of missing minors is 47.8% for foreigners and 24.1% for Italians.

Continuous monitoring was carried out on reports of missing foreign minors from Ukraine, which, in the year 2022, numbered 70.

There were 12,170 finds, 49.9% of missing person reports, a slight increase on the previous year.

Bella stressed that the


recovery times continue to decrease: 75% of the disappeared are found within the first week.

10% of the finds occurred in the railway sector and mostly concerned minors.
