According to the police, a man discovered a foreign sports bag with an explosive device in his garden in Dortmund.
The 23-year-old alerted the emergency services after the find, the officials reported.
According to the police, the bag contained cables, bottles of petrol and a detonator.
The site was cordoned off generously, two houses were evacuated.
Experts then removed the items.
The bag ultimately posed no danger, police said.
The investigations continued.
