Around 3 pm yesterday, two girls aged 7 and 8 were stabbed in the courtyard of the Evangelical school of Neukoelln, in Berlin, by a 38-year-old German man suffering from a mental illness.
One of them would be in danger of life, while the other would be seriously injured.
The two were taken to hospital by helicopter.
The Berlin prosecutor's office ordered the man to be hospitalized in a male psychiatric center.
This was stated by the spokeswoman for the prosecutor's office.
The man, who waited for the police after the attack, would have no connection to the victims.
However, these details have not yet been confirmed by the police.
The crime weapon would have already been found.
The Berlin authorities assume that the man was not moved by political or religious motives.
However, the reasons for the move are not yet known.
This was stated by a spokeswoman for the city government's education department, as reported by Dpa.
