Can an exciting ride to the Champions League turn into a disappointment? Lazio fans hope not, even if they fear a mockery that would be really painful. After occupying second place for weeks behind Napoli leaders, the biancocelesti, with three defeats in the last four games, have slowed down a lot on their schedule, being overtaken by Juventus.
Before the match with Lecce, Lazio's standings, third, read 64 points, just one more than Inter and three more than Milan, the direct competitors for the Champions League. Now, for Milinkovic and his teammates, the margin of error has been reduced to zero: in the last four games of the season, they need as many wins. First the Salento, then Udinese, Cremonese at home (which could still be in the running for salvation) and finally the trip to Empoli. The final rush begins tomorrow, against the Giallorossi of Baroni who, with 31 points, are not yet certain of staying in A (the third last place occupied by Spezia is just four lengths away).
At the Olimpico it will be a real game, between two teams with pressing objectives: space therefore for Sarri's holders, with Provedel in goal (who aims to find the clean sheet after taking two goals with Milan), Casale and Romagnoli at the center of defense, assisted by Lazzari (ahead of Marusic) and Hysaj. In the median, Cataldi still has to dispose of the calf edema, while Vecino is back from a hamstring injury.
Space then to Marcos Antonio, next to Milinkovic (at the last outings with Lazio, in the summer he will say goodbye) and Luis Alberto.
The alternative is to see the Wizard as a director instead of the Brazilian, and Basic mezzala.
